Passage

1Good morning, everyone. Today I would like to talk about a small habit that changed my life: keeping a daily journal. My topic sounds ordinary, but I promise the results are not. I have divided my talk into three parts: how I started, what changed, and my advice for you.

2Let me begin with how it started. After failing my first S5 exam, I felt lost and too embarrassed to tell anyone. That night I started writing three sentences a day — just three. At first, the entries were pure complaints: the test, the teacher, the weather. But slowly, writing helped me see patterns in my emotions and study habits. I noticed that I always felt anxious on Sunday nights and always lost focus after two hours of phone scrolling. Naming a problem, I discovered, is halfway to solving it.

3The changes came quietly. Whenever stress built up before exams, the journal became my private counsellor, and writing down my worries emptied them from my head onto the page. Six months later, I was calmer, more focused and more grateful. My grades improved, but more importantly, so did my sleep and my temper. The body of my story is simple: a habit smaller than brushing your teeth rebuilt my confidence.

4In conclusion, my advice is simple: start tonight, write only three sentences, and be honest, because the journal is the one listener that never judges. Keep it fluent and unforced, because a bad sentence written daily beats a perfect page written never. A tiny habit, kept daily, can carry you further than a big plan kept never. Thank you for listening.

Sentence-by-sentence translation

Good morning, everyone.

Today I would like to talk about a small habit that changed my life: keeping a daily journal.

My topic sounds ordinary, but I promise the results are not.

I have divided my talk into three parts: how I started, what changed, and my advice for you.

Let me begin with how it started.

The changes came quietly.

In conclusion, my advice is simple: start tonight, write only three sentences, and be honest, because the journal is the one listener that never judges.

Keep it fluent and unforced, because a bad sentence written daily beats a perfect page written never.

A tiny habit, kept daily, can carry you further than a big plan kept never.

Thank you for listening.

Steps

方法是第一句問候(good morning, everyone);第二句製造反差懸念:今日想說一個改變了我的生命的小習慣,題目平凡而效果不平凡(sounds ordinary, but the results are not);第三句報結構地圖:how I started、what changed、my advice。
方法是把建議壓成三句短指令:今晚就開始(start tonight)、只寫三句(write only three sentences)、要誠實(be honest);再加一句對比金句昇華:a bad sentence written daily beats a perfect page written never;最後 thank you for listening 收結。
I have divided my talk into three parts,順序列出三部分的名稱;之後每說完一部分,聽眾自然知道進度,自己也不易越說越亂。以本課範文為例,開場即報 how I started、what changed、my advice 三部分。

Example

  1. 第一步:開場設懸念:「a small habit that changed my life」+「sounds ordinary, but the results are not」——平凡題目不平凡講法。
  2. 第二步:報結構:how I started → what changed → my advice,聽眾一開始就有地圖。
  5. 第五步:三句建議(今晚開始、只寫三句、要誠實)+對比金句:「a bad sentence written daily beats a perfect page written never」。
轉變有觀察證據:發現星期日晚上固定焦慮、滑手機兩小時後失焦,帶出「Naming a problem is halfway to solving it」;日誌變「private counsellor」,將憂慮由腦袋搬到紙上。 結尾三句建議(今晚開始、只寫三句、要誠實)加對比金句——「a bad sentence written daily beats a perfect page written never」——聽眾帶着行動離場。
