1Proposal for a Student Wellness Corner. Purpose: The purpose of this proposal is to suggest a quiet space where students can rest and talk to trained peer supporters during stressful periods, and to explain how such a space could be created within the present school building.
2Current situation: The situation is worrying. The counsellor's room is the only private space available, and appointments are often booked two weeks in advance. In a survey conducted by the Student Union last term, sixty per cent of respondents said they had felt seriously stressed at least once a month, yet most of them had never asked for help because they did not know where to start.
3Proposal: We propose that the unused room next to the prefects' office should be converted into a wellness corner with soft chairs, plants and a suggestion box. Two trained peer supporters would be on duty during lunch breaks, and any student could drop in without booking. Benefits: The corner would give students immediate emotional support and reduce the counsellor's workload at the same time.
4Cost and timeline: The estimated cost is fifteen thousand dollars, mainly for furniture and soundproofing, and we believe this is a small price for a healthier school. Renovation could take place during the Christmas holiday, and the corner could open in January. Since mental health is an urgent issue for our generation, we sincerely hope the school will consider this plan.
