§Text Passage

1Proposal for a Student Wellness Corner. Purpose: The purpose of this proposal is to suggest a quiet space where students can rest and talk to trained peer supporters during stressful periods, and to explain how such a space could be created within the present school building.

2Current situation: The situation is worrying. The counsellor's room is the only private space available, and appointments are often booked two weeks in advance. In a survey conducted by the Student Union last term, sixty per cent of respondents said they had felt seriously stressed at least once a month, yet most of them had never asked for help because they did not know where to start.

3Proposal: We propose that the unused room next to the prefects' office should be converted into a wellness corner with soft chairs, plants and a suggestion box. Two trained peer supporters would be on duty during lunch breaks, and any student could drop in without booking. Benefits: The corner would give students immediate emotional support and reduce the counsellor's workload at the same time.

4Cost and timeline: The estimated cost is fifteen thousand dollars, mainly for furniture and soundproofing, and we believe this is a small price for a healthier school. Renovation could take place during the Christmas holiday, and the corner could open in January. Since mental health is an urgent issue for our generation, we sincerely hope the school will consider this plan.

3Step by step Steps

  1. PurposeThe Purpose states the aim in one sentence. Example: The purpose of this proposal is to suggest a quiet space where students can rest and talk to trained peer supporters during stressful periods.
  2. CurrentThe Current situation proves the problem with data. Example: appointments are often booked two weeks in advance, and sixty per cent of respondents said they had felt seriously stressed at least once a month — numbers carry the truth.
  3. ProposalThe Proposal must be workable in detail. Example: convert the unused room next to the prefects' office into a wellness corner with soft chairs, plants and a suggestion box, with two trained peer supporters on duty at lunch and no booking needed.
  4. Benefits + CostBenefits win twice: immediate emotional support plus a lighter counsellor workload. Cost has a figure and a date: fifteen thousand dollars, renovated at Christmas, open in January — cheap and quick is easy to approve.
  5. TimelineA timeline shows you have done the maths. Example: Renovation could take place during the Christmas holiday, and the corner could open in January — proposals with deadlines feel far more credible.
  6. UrgencyEnd with legitimate urgency. Example: Since mental health is an urgent issue for our generation, we sincerely hope the school will consider this plan — urgent describes the issue, never the reader.
  7. Five-part recapRecap: Purpose → Current situation (with data) → Proposal → Benefits → Cost and timeline. Miss any part and the organisation marks go with it.

5Worked example Example

How does the model proposal 'Proposal for a Student Wellness Corner' persuade the school in five steps — purpose, current situation, plan, benefits, cost and timeline?

  1. Step 1: Purpose states the aim in one sentence — a quiet space where students can rest and talk to trained peer supporters.
  2. Step 2: Current situation proves the problem with hard data — the counsellor is booked two weeks ahead, and sixty per cent of respondents feel serious monthly stress yet never ask for help.
  3. Step 3: The proposal is workable in detail — convert the unused room next to the prefects' office, add soft chairs, plants and a suggestion box, with two trained peer supporters on duty at lunch, no booking needed.
  4. Step 4: Benefits are double — immediate emotional support for students and a lighter workload for the counsellor.
  5. Step 5: Cost and timeline show the maths is done — fifteen thousand dollars, renovation at Christmas, opening in January — closing with 'mental health is an urgent issue'.
  6. Answer: The proposal persuades in five steps. The purpose is stated in one sentence; the current situation supplies two hard facts — the counsellor's room is booked two weeks in advance, and sixty per cent of surveyed students feel serious stress monthly but never seek help. The plan itself is concrete: the unused room beside the prefects' office becomes a wellness corner with soft chairs, plants and a suggestion box, staffed by two trained peer supporters at lunch with no booking required. The benefits work both ways — instant support for students, less pressure on the counsellor. Finally, the cost of fifteen thousand dollars and a realistic timeline (Christmas renovation, January opening) make the scheme look cheap and quick, and the closing line about mental health adds moral weight.

8Recap Recap

  • Proposal formula: Purpose → Current situation → Proposal → Benefits → Cost.
  • Use data to prove the problem is real, not just 'it is serious'.
  • Make the plan workable: where, who, when it opens and how much it costs.
  • Sell the benefits to the school too — less workload, low cost — not only to students.
  • A timeline (renovation, opening date) shows you have done the maths and builds trust.
