1The zoo is a fun place to visit. There are many animals. You can see lions, tigers, and elephants. The monkeys are very playful. They jump around and make funny faces. The pandas are my favourite. They eat bamboo all day.
2There is also a bird show at two o'clock. You can watch birds do tricks. A big sign at the entrance says, 'Buy your ticket here.' Another sign says, 'Do not feed the animals.' A small sign near the grass says, 'Keep off the grass.'
3Remember to read the signs first. They keep us and the animals safe. The zoo is open from nine to five. Let us follow the signs and have a happy day at the zoo. Before we leave the zoo, we buy a small toy panda from the gift shop. My friend says, 'Let us come again in the summer.' I nod and smile. We had a wonderful day.

- 場景：動物園The zoo is a fun place 點出場景是動物園，一個有趣的地方。園裡有 lions、tigers、elephants，monkeys 十分活潑，jump around 到處跳。讀這類文字時，先找出地點和動物，等於在地圖上定好位置，之後的細節就有依靠。易錯位：動物詞表示整類時常用複數，用 there is 或 there are 帶出。
- 時間資訊There is a bird show at two o'clock，兩點有一場雀鳥表演。時刻用 at 帶出，時間資訊最常出現在告示牌和海報上。找時間時留意 o'clock、a.m.、p.m. 這類標記，見到就放慢速度。易錯位：there is 後面接單數的 a bird show，如果有多場表演就要改用 there are；時刻之前用 at，不用 in 或 on。
- 兩個重要牌大門口的牌寫 Buy your ticket here，在這裡購票；另一塊牌寫 Do not feed the animals，不要餵飼動物。讀牌時先看動詞：一塊叫人做，一塊叫人不要做，方向完全相反。易錯位：牌上的字通常短而直接，閱讀時先抓住動詞，再留意開頭有沒有 Do not 這種否定詞。
- 祈使句牌Buy your ticket here 是祈使句，叫人做事；Do not feed 是否定祈使句，禁止人做事。祈使句以原形動詞開頭，省去主詞 you，因為對象人人都知道；否定就在動詞前加 Do not。易錯位：祈使句的動詞保持原形，不加 s，也不加 to；Do not 之後同樣用原形動詞 feed。
- 開放時間The zoo is open from nine to five，開放時間由九點至五點。from 加起點，to 加終點，合起來表示一段時間範圍，例如 from Monday to Friday、from two to four。易錯位：from 和 to 要成對出現，只寫 from nine 就不完整；is open 形容開放的狀態，不要寫成 is opening。
- 為什麼要讀牌Remember to read the signs first. They keep us and the animals safe. 進入場所先讀牌，牌子就是安全規矩：一塊教我們購票，一塊保護動物不被亂餵。signs 用複數，因為牌子不止一塊。易錯位：remember to 加原形動詞表示記得去做，remember doing 則指記得曾經做過，兩者意思不同。
- 句式練習引述牌子內容用 says：The sign says "Do not feed the animals." 主詞 the sign 加動詞 says，再加牌上的字，用引號包住。試一試引述另一塊牌：The sign says "Buy your ticket here." 易錯位：says 是第三人稱單數形式；引號之內照抄牌子原文，不必改動詞形式或加主詞。
