1The zoo is a fun place to visit. There are many animals. You can see lions, tigers, and elephants. The monkeys are very playful. They jump around and make funny faces. The pandas are my favourite. They eat bamboo all day.
2There is also a bird show at two o'clock. You can watch birds do tricks. A big sign at the entrance says, 'Buy your ticket here.' Another sign says, 'Do not feed the animals.' A small sign near the grass says, 'Keep off the grass.'
3Remember to read the signs first. They keep us and the animals safe. The zoo is open from nine to five. Let us follow the signs and have a happy day at the zoo. Before we leave the zoo, we buy a small toy panda from the gift shop. My friend says, 'Let us come again in the summer.' I nod and smile. We had a wonderful day.

- 场景：动物园The zoo is a fun place 点出场景是动物园，一个有趣的地方。园里有 lions、tigers、elephants，monkeys 十分活泼，jump around 到处跳。读这类文字时，先找出地点和动物，等于在地图上定好位置，之后的细节就有依靠。易错位：动物词表示整类时常用复数，用 there is 或 there are 带出。
- 时间资讯There is a bird show at two o'clock，两点有一场雀鸟表演。时刻用 at 带出，时间资讯最常出现在告示牌和海报上。找时间时留意 o'clock、a.m.、p.m. 这类标记，见到就放慢速度。易错位：there is 后面接单数的 a bird show，如果有多场表演就要改用 there are；时刻之前用 at，不用 in 或 on。
- 两个重要牌大门口的牌写 Buy your ticket here，在这里购票；另一块牌写 Do not feed the animals，不要喂饲动物。读牌时先看动词：一块叫人做，一块叫人不要做，方向完全相反。易错位：牌上的字通常短而直接，阅读时先抓住动词，再留意开头有没有 Do not 这种否定词。
- 祈使句牌Buy your ticket here 是祈使句，叫人做事；Do not feed 是否定祈使句，禁止人做事。祈使句以原形动词开头，省去主词 you，因为对象人人都知道；否定就在动词前加 Do not。易错位：祈使句的动词保持原形，不加 s，也不加 to；Do not 之后同样用原形动词 feed。
- 开放时间The zoo is open from nine to five，开放时间由九点至五点。from 加起点，to 加终点，合起来表示一段时间范围，例如 from Monday to Friday、from two to four。易错位：from 和 to 要成对出现，只写 from nine 就不完整；is open 形容开放的状态，不要写成 is opening。
- 为什么要读牌Remember to read the signs first. They keep us and the animals safe. 进入场所先读牌，牌子就是安全规矩：一块教我们购票，一块保护动物不被乱喂。signs 用复数，因为牌子不止一块。易错位：remember to 加原形动词表示记得去做，remember doing 则指记得曾经做过，两者意思不同。
- 句式练习引述牌子内容用 says：The sign says "Do not feed the animals." 主词 the sign 加动词 says，再加牌上的字，用引号包住。试一试引述另一块牌：The sign says "Buy your ticket here." 易错位：says 是第三人称单数形式；引号之内照抄牌子原文，不必改动词形式或加主词。

动物园读牌任务：把三块牌配回意思，并回答两条问题。
- 牌一：Buy your ticket here，意思是在入口购票，祈使句叫人做。
- 牌二：Do not feed the animals，意思是不要喂饲动物，否定祈使句禁止做。
- 牌三：Open from nine to five，意思是九点至五点开放，from 加 to 说范围。
- 答 Q1：What time is the bird show? 答 At two o'clock，时刻前用 at。
- 答 Q2：What must we not do? 答 Feed the animals，正是被禁止的那件事。
- 引述练习：The sign says "Buy your ticket here." 用 says 报出牌子内容。
