1Mary is a Primary Three student in Hong Kong. Every day she carries two books and a pencil case to school. Her teacher, Mr Chan, teaches English. At recess, Mary drinks water and eats bread in the playground.
2On Sundays, her family goes to the park. Her brother plays football with his friends. Mary reads a book about animals under a big tree. The park is quiet and green.
3Mr Chan says, 'A noun is the name of a person, a place, an animal or a thing.' 'Mary' is a person. 'Hong Kong' is a place. 'Cat' is an animal. 'Book' is a thing. - 名詞四類Mr Chan 說 A noun is the name of a person, a place, an animal or a thing，名詞就是人、地方、動物或事物的名稱，一共四類。人的例子有 Mary、Mr Chan；地方如 Hong Kong；動物如 cat；事物如 book。易錯位：a 或 an 配名詞時看開頭音，animal 以響音開頭，所以要寫 an animal。
- 第一段找名詞在 Mary is a Primary Three student 裡，Mary 是人，student 也是人；books、a pencil case 是事物；Mr Chan 是人名。找名詞時自問：這個字是否某人或某物的名稱？若是，它就是名詞。易錯位：Primary Three 是年級名稱，屬於專有名詞，兩個字都要以大寫開頭，不能寫成 primary three。
- 第二段找名詞星期日一家人去 the park，park 是地方；brother plays football，brother 和 football 都是名詞；Mary reads a book under a big tree，book 和 tree 也是名詞，big 是形容詞不算。一段文字裡名詞往往不止一個，先全部找出，再逐一分類。易錯位：the、a 這類冠詞後面多數跟著名詞，可以借它們幫手尋找。
- 普通名詞 vs 專有名詞girl 是普通名詞，泛指任何女孩；Mary 是專有名詞，特指那一個女孩，開頭必須大寫。同樣，park 是普通名詞，Victoria Park 是專有名詞。分辨方法很簡單：特定人物或地方的專稱才大寫。易錯位：普通名詞除非在句首，否則不大寫；專有名詞無論在句子哪個位置都要大寫。
- 大楷規矩四類字要以大寫開頭：人名如 Mary、Mr Chan；地名如 Hong Kong；日子如 Sunday；稱呼如 Uncle Lee。Mr 的 M 和 Chan 的 C 都要大寫，因為整個稱號都是名字的一部分。易錯位：月份和日子同樣大寫，例如 Monday、October；普通名詞如 boy、school 不必大寫，除非放在句首。
- 可數不可數數得到的名詞是可數：two books、three pencils 加 s 表示多於一。數不到的是不可數：water、rice 沒有複數，前面不加 a，也不加 s，要說數量時用 some water、a bowl of rice。易錯位：有些名詞看來能數其實不可數，例如 bread、money，切勿寫 two breads，要說 two pieces of bread。
- 句式練習用一個句子練分類：Mary reads a book in the park. 說出句子後指出：Mary 是人，book 是事物，park 是地方。自己再寫一句，例如 My brother plays football at school，同樣圈出人、事物和地方。易錯位：寫完檢查兩處：專有名詞是否大寫，可數名詞的複數是否加了 s。
