Passage

1The setting was a waterfront path in Hong Kong on a stormy summer evening. Marco, the main character, and his sister were walking home when the sky suddenly turned dark. The wind blew harder, and heavy rain began to fall. They hid under a small pavilion, but Marco noticed an old man standing alone in the rain. “Grandpa, come here! You will get wet!” Marco shouted. The old man smiled and joined them under the roof. A friendly dialogue began.

2The storm grew worse, and the pavilion shook in the wind. Marco felt a conflict: the storm was frightening, but the old man had no umbrella. “Where do you live?” Marco asked, and the old man pointed along the road. Marco looked at his sister, and she nodded. Together, they shared one umbrella and walked the old man home through the storm. The storm reached its climax as thunder rolled, but the old man kept talking about his garden and his grandchildren.

3At the door, the old man said, “Thank you, young man. Kind hearts are stronger than any storm.” It was a simple plot: a storm, an umbrella and a kind deed. When they finally got home, they were soaking wet, and their mother made them hot chocolate. The rain drummed on the windows all night, yet Marco slept with a warm smile, and the story found its happy resolution. Even the narrator cannot decide who was happier that night.

Sentence-by-sentence translation

The setting was a waterfront path in Hong Kong on a stormy summer evening.

They hid under a small pavilion, but Marco noticed an old man standing alone in the rain.

“Grandpa, come here! You will get wet!” Marco shouted.

The old man smiled and joined them under the roof.

A friendly dialogue began.

The storm grew worse, and the pavilion shook in the wind.

Marco felt a conflict: the storm was frightening, but the old man had no umbrella.

“Where do you live?” Marco asked, and the old man pointed along the road.

Steps

Marco, the main character, and his sister were walking home when the sky suddenly turned dark,人物正在走路,天空忽然转黑,悬念即刻形成。
The storm grew worse, and the pavilion shook in the wind,环境持续恶化;接着 Marco felt a conflict: the storm was frightening, but the old man had no umbrella,风雨可怕而老人没有伞,两难正式形成。
Together, they shared one umbrella and walked the old man home,两人共伞送老人回家,冲突圆满化解;老人随即说出 Kind hearts are stronger than any storm,善良的心胜过任何风暴,主旨自然浮现。 They went home and slept
The setting was a waterfront path in Hong Kong on a stormy summer evening,海滨小径加上风雨夏夜,地点偏僻而天气恶劣,张力不请自来。
例如:范文的冲突是 the storm was frightening, but the old man had no umbrella,赶快回家避雨是安全,留下帮助老人是善良,两头受逼,抉择自然牵动人心。
The storm reached its climax as thunder rolled, but the old man kept talking about his garden,雷声滚滚是环境顶点,老人从容谈论花园反成对照,紧张与温情交织。
例如:范文写 'Grandpa, come here! You will get wet!'

Example

  1. 第一步:Setting 交代时间地点人物——a waterfront path on a stormy summer evening;Marco 他两兄妹。
  2. 第二步:Conflict 制造两难——The storm was frightening, but the old man had no umbrella.
  3. 第三步:Climax 推到最高潮——Thunder rolled while they shared one umbrella and walked the old man home.
  4. 第四步:Resolution 收结连感受——'Kind hearts are stronger than any storm.' Marco slept with a warm smile.
  6. 答案:The setting was a waterfront path in Hong Kong on a stormy summer evening. Marco and his sister were walking home when the sky suddenly turned dark, so they hid under a small pavilion. Then Marco noticed an old man standing alone in the rain. The conflict was clear: the storm was frightening, but the old man had no umbrella. 'Come here! You will get wet!' Marco shouted, and together they shared one umbrella and walked him home. At the door the old man smiled: 'Kind hearts are stronger than any storm.' Soaking wet at home, Marco still slept with a warm smile — a simple plot, but a happy resolution.
