1Last Friday, our school held a Careers Day, and professionals from different fields came to talk to us. A young nurse introduced her profession and talked about her colleagues in the hospital. She said the salary is fair, but helping patients gives her real satisfaction. An engineer told us that employers today want workers with strong communication skills. He advised us to gain experience through summer jobs and volunteering.
2My classmate Wendy asked how to prepare for a job interview. The engineer said we should learn about the company first, dress neatly and practise answering questions calmly. He also reminded us that every job teaches us something new, even a part-time job at a restaurant. Wendy said she wants to be a journalist because she loves writing. Another student hopes to become a chef and open his own restaurant one day.
3After the talks, I thought about my own career goal. I am interested in science, so I may study medicine at university. To prepare, I plan to join the science club and read more about famous doctors. I also want to improve my English, because good communication is an important skill in any workplace. My parents say that a good education opens many doors, and I agree with them. Now I have a clearer plan, and I will work harder for my dream job.
