3Step by step Steps
- Paragraph 1: the lost pencilExample: Peter cannot find his pencil. He looks under the desk and inside the bag, but there is no sign of it. This paragraph brings in four position words — in, on, under, next to — which tell where things are, so read them until smooth.
- Paragraph 2: a friend helpsExample: Mary says, "You can use them today," and lends Peter a pen and a ruler. Peter says thank you at once. When a friend is in trouble, help; a lending sentence is full of kindness. Learn the pair: lend is to give, borrow is to take.
- The pencil is foundExample: Mary finds the pencil under the chair, right next to the eraser. Peter smiles with joy, because now he can write. Use two position words together and the location sounds exact and clear — the most common way to answer.
- Four position wordsExample: in the bag, on the desk, under the chair, next to the eraser. Point at real things and say one sentence for each word. Point and say at the same time, and the four position words will stick fast.
- Asking Where is ...?Example: ask with Where is my pencil? and answer with It is under the chair. Where is opens the question; It is plus a position word gives the answer. One question and one answer make a complete dialogue, and neither is can be dropped.
- Thank-you sentencesExample: Thank you. / You are a good friend. When someone helps you — or you help someone — say the thanks out loud. Look at your friend, smile a little, and use the two sentences in turn; they sound polite and natural.
- Little taskExample: say where three of your things are: My eraser is in the pencil case. My ruler is on the desk. My bag is on my chair. Each one is a variation of the It is pattern; master them and position questions hold no fear.
