3Step by step Steps
- Paragraph 1: off to the zooExample: the class goes to the zoo by school bus. A zookeeper and his dog come out to welcome us, and the dog is so happy that it wags its tail. Opening paragraphs of an outing story tell when, where and who — find these three things first.
- Paragraph 2: big animalsExample: the pandas eat bamboo and look very cute; the tiger walks slowly near the trees; the lion sleeps in the sun. Three animals with three actions make perfect material for describing animals — imitate the lines one by one as you read.
- What animals are doingExample: The tiger is walking. The lion is sleeping. The pandas are eating. The pattern is is/are plus verb-ing: one animal takes is, two or more take are, and -ing shows the action is happening now. This is the present continuous.
- Paragraph 3: Amy's favouriteExample: Amy likes the rabbit best, so she draws a picture of it in her notebook: She draws a picture of it in her notebook. When you write about your favourite thing, add one small thing you did for it, and the writing turns personal at once.
- Animal word groupsExample: small animals at home: cat, dog, bird, fish, rabbit; big animals at the zoo: tiger, lion, panda. Read each group three times, then quiz each other: one says panda, and the other must answer at once — a big animal at the zoo.
- favourite is usefulExample: My favourite animal is the panda. It eats bamboo. Favourite means the one you like best, and the pattern My favourite ___ is ... also fits colours, food and school subjects. Learn it by heart; it goes a long way.
- Sentence practiceExample: My favourite animal is the rabbit. It likes carrots. Name your favourite animal first, then add one reason, such as what it eats or how it looks. Two sentences together make a complete little introduction.
5Worked example Example
