3Step by step Steps

  1. Paragraph 1: breakfastRead the sentences I eat an egg and some bread. and I drink a glass of milk. Egg, bread and milk give me energy for the morning. After reading, try to say in English what you ate for breakfast today. It does not matter if you make a mistake; trying is how we learn.
  2. Paragraph 2: lunch and fruitAt school you can say I eat rice and noodles. When a friend gives you a banana, say My friend gives me a banana. On the way home you eat an apple that is sweet and crunchy. Joining food words with simple adjectives makes your sentences lively and interesting.
  3. Paragraph 3: water firstWater has no colour and no taste, but it is very good for our body, so we should drink enough water every day. Also remember: sweets taste nice, but do not eat too many, because too much sugar is bad for your teeth and your body.
  4. Three food groupsPut the eight words into three groups: staples: rice, noodles, bread; fruit: apple, banana; drinks: milk, water. When words are sorted into groups, remembering one word helps you recall the whole set, so you learn faster and find the right word more easily.
  5. a or anUse an before egg and apple because they begin with the vowel letters e and a: an egg, an apple. Use a before banana, which begins with the consonant b, and say a glass of milk when milk comes in a glass. Check the first letter first: a, e, i, o, u take an.
  6. eat or drinkUse eat for solid food: I eat bread. Use drink for liquids: I drink milk. Remember that milk and water are drunk, not eaten, and soup is drunk too. Choosing the right verb makes your sentence sound natural, and people will understand you at once.
  7. Sentence practiceMake sentences about meals: I eat an egg for breakfast. and I drink water every day. Learn the three meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pick one meal each day and try to say in English what you ate and what you drank at that meal.
