§Text Passage

1During Computer Week, our school invited a young engineer called Mr Ng to talk about the technology of the future. He explained that artificial intelligence can already recognise voices, translate languages and even write news reports. In many factories, automation and robots have replaced human workers on production lines. At one exhibition, he saw a robot arm that could pack a hundred boxes in ten minutes. He told us that these changes are happening much faster than most people expected.

2The most exciting part was the virtual reality corner. We put on headsets and visited a science museum in London without leaving our classroom. Mr Ng said innovation will create new jobs, such as drone pilots and AI trainers, that do not exist today. However, not everyone benefits, and the digital divide between rich and poor families may grow wider. Students without a computer at home, he warned, may fall behind in their studies.

3He also gave us practical advice about cybersecurity. We should never share our passwords, and we should think twice before clicking strange links in emails. Protecting data privacy is becoming one of the biggest challenges of modern life. After the talk, our class designed posters about online safety and hung them along the corridor. The visit made everyone think carefully about how technology should shape our future.

§Sentence-by-sentence translation Sentence-by-sentence translation

During Computer Week, our school invited a young engineer called Mr Ng to talk about the technology of the future.

電腦週期間,學校邀請了一位年輕工程師吳先生來講未來科技。

He explained that artificial intelligence can already recognise voices, translate languages and even write news reports.

他解釋,人工智能現在已經懂得辨認聲音、翻譯語言,甚至撰寫新聞報道。

In many factories, automation and robots have replaced human workers on production lines.

在很多工廠,自動化同機械人已經取代了生產線上的工人。

At one exhibition, he saw a robot arm that could pack a hundred boxes in ten minutes.

他在一個展覽見過一條機械臂,十分鐘就可以裝好一百個紙箱。

He told us that these changes are happening much faster than most people expected.

他說,這些轉變發生的速度比大部分人預期快很多。

The most exciting part was the virtual reality corner.

最精彩的環節是虛擬實境角落。

We put on headsets and visited a science museum in London without leaving our classroom.

我們戴起頭戴裝置,不必離開課室就參觀了倫敦一間科學博物館。

Mr Ng said innovation will create new jobs, such as drone pilots and AI trainers, that do not exist today.

吳先生說,創新會創造一些今日還未存在的新工種,例如無人機機師同人工智能培訓員。

However, not everyone benefits, and the digital divide between rich and poor families may grow wider.

不過,不是人人都得益,貧富家庭之間的數碼鴻溝可能會越來越闊。

Students without a computer at home, he warned, may fall behind in their studies.

他警告,家中沒有電腦的學生可能會在學業上落後。

He also gave us practical advice about cybersecurity.

他亦就網絡安全給了我們實用的建議。

We should never share our passwords, and we should think twice before clicking strange links in emails.

我們千萬不要和別人分享密碼,在按入電郵裡面的一些奇怪連結之前亦要三思。

Protecting data privacy is becoming one of the biggest challenges of modern life.

保護資料私隱正成為現代生活最大的挑戰之一。

After the talk, our class designed posters about online safety and hung them along the corridor.

講座之後,我們班設計了關於網絡安全的海報,掛在走廊兩旁。

The visit made everyone think carefully about how technology should shape our future.

這次探訪令大家認真思考,科技應該怎樣塑造我們的未來。

3Step by step Steps

  1. Current techTechnology is already powerful. Example: artificial intelligence can recognise voices, translate languages and even write news reports, and in factories automation and robots have replaced workers — one robot arm packs a hundred boxes in ten minutes.
  2. Future trendsTrends mean new jobs. Example: innovation will create careers that do not exist today, such as drone pilots and AI trainers, while virtual reality let the class visit a science museum in London without leaving the classroom.
  3. ConcernsTechnology has risks. Example: the digital divide between rich and poor families may grow wider, so students without a computer at home may fall behind — and everyone must guard cybersecurity and data privacy.
  4. Key vocabularyEight tech words: artificial intelligence, automation, digital divide, innovation, robot, virtual reality, cybersecurity and data privacy. Try using three of them in one prediction about future life.
  5. Cybersecurity tipsTwo rules protect you online: never share your passwords, and think twice before clicking strange links in emails. Both lines can be reused directly in writing tasks as advice.
  6. Discussion formulaStructure tech topics in four moves: benefits (AI translates) → trends (new jobs) → concerns (the digital divide) → advice (cybersecurity tips). It works for the quiz and for writing.
  7. Write about itMind the grammar as you write: Robots will do everything (plural robots) and Technology makes life easier (third-person s). End with a stand: Technology should shape our future in a fair and safe way.

5Worked example Example

Based on the passage, write a discussion of future technology using four moves: benefits → trends → concerns → advice (at least five sentences).

  1. Step 1: Benefits — Artificial intelligence can already recognise voices, translate languages and even write news reports.
  2. Step 2: Trends — Innovation will create new jobs, such as drone pilots and AI trainers.
  3. Step 3: Concerns — The digital divide between rich and poor families may grow wider.
  4. Step 4: Cybersecurity advice — Never share your passwords and think twice before clicking strange links.
  5. Step 5: Your stand — Technology should shape our future in a fair and safe way.
  6. Answer: Technology is changing our future fast. Artificial intelligence can already recognise voices, translate languages and even write news reports, and robots can pack a hundred boxes in ten minutes. Innovation will create new jobs, such as drone pilots and AI trainers. However, we must be careful: the digital divide may grow wider, and students without a computer at home may fall behind. We should also learn about cybersecurity — never share your passwords and think twice before clicking strange links. With good rules, technology can shape a fair and exciting future for everyone.
